First of all never get the first name you see. A background check is essential. Unlike me, I phoned a carpenter simply because my mother had a flyer mailed to her house and she told me “oh phone them, they must be cheap” and so I did. I needed a carpenter so I would have nice wooden flooring. The guy seemed to be professional but on some decisions would start preaching to me, which was kind of strange. Then I realised he was a Jehovah’s Witness. He runs his business from Spain in La Linea De La Conception the company is called Parque Plass. The owner is Jose Torres. He used his 3 brothers to work in my house. Jose Torres recommended a kitchen company also situated in Spain in La Linea De La Conception. The kitchen company is called Bricolaje Cruz. The flooring company owned by Jose Torres did a terrible job in my flat. The skirting where placed on top of the other skirting and they took 2 weeks to almost finish the flooring. Gosh I have so much to complain about this company. They would come every day, and every evening I would get home to find dirty knives left on the windowsill and empty packets of crisps and empty juice cartons which were bought for my daughter for school! I don’t know what made me angrier, the fact that they couldn’t wash after themselves or the fact that they were helping themselves to anything they wanted without asking me. The final straw was when I came home to find my brand new kitchen cabinet doors taken off and loads of things including personal paper work and a brand new lap top STOLEN. I made a report to the Royal Gibraltar Police. They came to my house to get a statement off me, then I headed off to the Police station in Spain. The Spanish Police told me they couldn’t help me since the criminal offence was in Gibraltar. They informed me that they could have taken some action if the Royal Gibraltar Police sent them a fax with a request to do so. The Royal Gibraltar Police didn’t help me out since they seem to sit on their bums all day or order takeaways and grow a belly.

This is just a warning for all those innocent people who want to look for a carpenter. Please do RESEARCH when looking for a qualified, well respected company. And this is a lesson I had to learn the hard way. Never hire a Citizen that doesn’t live in the same country from where you presently live and remember, “They are just a bunch of Cowboys”.

After watching my parents get screwed over to the tune of £5k by some Spanish ‘decorators’, I guess the moral of the story is dont pay a single penny until AFTER the work is completed and you are satisfied with the work done.

Wow what a bunch of assholes! Never leave your house unattended when any people have come round to do some work. Just think what else they could have done apart from stealing stuff. x

I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. If you were here in the States, I would have this handled for you with one phone call or letter to the right person to fix it. Again I am so sorry and wish I could help you out here. Estupidos! Ir probably is a good thing you weren’t home, they could have hurt you physically too if they have such blatant disregard for your home and privacy. Next time, be there with a big strong man just for support.

Keira got mugged in London and they swiped her nice cheap iPod Nano and probably didn’t realise the headphones were an uber-expensive set of Shure sound isolating thingies that cost 4 times more than the iPod. I can imagine the crackhead selling it down the pub for £50…

As for your phone, if you still have the box, get the IMEI number off the box and a) take it to the police and file a report, (b) contact all of the phone providers (Orange, Vodaphone, etc) once you have the police report and find out if anyone with a contract is stupid enough to be using your phone. Every call made from a phone transmits the IMEI number and the networks can check if you pester them enough…
